Breaking News: Mudslides Continue in Washington State
MAPLE VALLEY, Washington — A landslide in Maple Valley blocked a portion of the Cedar River early Saturday morning, diverting water through one woman’s property, and down into six other homes, officials from the King County Sheriff’s Office say.
The river has since cut a path through the slide debris and returned to its banks, leaving homes in the 21300 block of 221st Avenue Southeast with standing water and surrounded by debris.
The slide can still be heard moving, officials say, and is 300-feet long, and 250-feet wide. Crews will be out clearing the area Saturday afternoon.
Officials have closed the river, restricting water activities, and ask the public to stay clear of the area. The closure is from the Maple Valley Highway (State Route 169) to the Maxwell Road at the Maple Valley Highway.
